Enough is Enough

I was called this past weekend to serve as the Webelos Scout Den Leader at the Spring Campout at the Indian Mound Scout Reservation in Oconomowoc, WI.  It was a fun filled 3 days immersing the boys in scouting with no electronics in their hands.  I wanted to record their moments.  I have collected so many different cameras over the years.  I took some 35mm cameras, and medium format cameras.
35mm:
Petri 7s
Nikon F100
Pentax Spotmatic/28mm lens.

Medium Format:
Agfa Isolette II
Hasselblad 503
Fuji GS645S

And a Nikon D90 and an iPhone.

I used them all over the span of 3 days.
I had 4 different camera bags.  Now I have to develop the film.

I think the most fun camera I used while I was there was the Agfa Isolette.  It was compact and I much prefer the Medium format size.   Every camera I took was so bulky.  The Petri 7s and the Fuji GS645S are both rangefinders.  They both have fixed lenses and are a joy to carry and shoot with.  The Fuji is an amazing camera. Compact, lightweight, an amazing lens and the photos are just plain amazing.  Plus, being 6x4.5 you get 16 shots per roll versus 12 6x6.
The Petri has a fast lens at f/1.7
You can shoot great shots in diminishing light. The Pentax Spotmatic and it's lenses are amazing.  I love that camera.
For a couple reasons.  The toughness of the camera besides having a fabric shutter. The lenses are amazing.  Quality and they are fast.  I took a Vivitar 28mm f/2.5 with me.  I also had a 50mm f/1.4 and a 105mm f/2.8.  I also have a giant zoom lens that I rarely use.  The Spotmatic also has a built-in lightmeter.
The other reason I love it is that my closest friend Mike owned it.  It was his fathers camera.  Mike died April 1st 2014, and every time I go shoot with it, it brings the memory of Mike back to me and all the great times the past 30 years that we shared as friends. I load it up with preloaded rolls of Kentmere 100 and go out looking to make each shot count as to honor and remember him.

This is one of the first shots I took with the iPhone.  Many more to follow.

Most of the photos were shot with Kodak Tri-X 400.

Taking so many cameras was difficult, but I love how each one captures a scene in their own way. It's so hard just to take one camera maybe I will try to take one camera next time.

What would you choose to take?
